The Center for LifeLong Learning and Design (L3D) is part of the Department of Computer Science and the Institute of Cognitive Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. The mission of the center is to establish the scientific foundations for the envisionment, design, development, and assessment of socio-technical systems that serve as amplifiers of human capabilities and that will bring dramatic and transformative improvements in the ways people live, learn, work, and collaborate. For more information see our flyer.

Recent Research Directions

We have explored and analyzed how Cultures of Participation can be fostered and supported to help people achieve their goals. In particular, one recent project studied how different aspects of Cultures of Participation apply to the domain of residential energy usage and how they can be used to help people to make smarter decisions about their own energy consumption. We have also been studying Quality of Life and how technologies interact such as in design trade-offs between artificial intelligence and intelligence augmentation.

L3D Meetings

L3D has a long tradition of Wednesday meetings to discuss topics of interest to the community, ranging from practice talks, to presentations by visitors, to broad discussions to push our research forward. Details of some past meetings can be found here.
